LAKE ALFRED, FL (WFTS/CNN) - A Florida family is outraged after they say their 7-year-old's teachers forced her to scrub floors with a toothbrush.
The girl said it was a punishment for misbehavior at her school.
"She came to me; she was like, 'Mom my back is hurting,'" said Ashley Kirpech, the child's mother. "I said, 'Well, tell me what's wrong.'"
Kirpech's daughter told her said she'd spent the day scrubbing floors with a toothbrush, and her mom was outraged.
"Had she never mentioned that, we would've known nothing about it," said Kenneth Gamble, the child's father
Gamble said she spent more than three hours on her hands and knees cleaning the floors. The punishment was for talking in class, the girl claimed.
According to the Polk County School District, they're checking into the allegations.
"We are deeply concerned," a representative said in a statement. "We have begun a formal investigation, and both teachers have been placed on administrative leave."
Polk County Schools said it is cooperating with law enforcement and the Department of Children and Families, which also is investigating.
"I want something to happen to the teacher, not just so our child but any child doesn't have to go through this again," Kirpech said.
