TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Students are speaking out after a parent walked into a Leon County school and fought a student.

"[The fight] was very shocking," said James Ruiz, a freshman at Lincoln High School.

Erika Morgan, the mother of a Lincoln High student, is being charged with battery and trespassing after Leon County deputies say she went to Lincoln High and got into a fight with one of her child's classmates. The fight was caught on video.

Deputies say Morgan did not sign in at the front office and marched into the classroom Tuesday.

"I was very surprised because the parent should have had common sense. It wasn't the smartest thing to do," said Ruiz.

Students at Lincoln High are worried a parent had such easy access to the school. They also worry about who else would be able to walk right in.

"I was scared because when I heard about it," said Lincoln High freshman Julian Goldsmith. "A school shooter could easily come up and just start shooting everybody."

"It could've been a school shooter and hurt a lot more people," said Ruiz.

WTXL reached out to Leon County Schools to find out more about the sign-in policy at Lincoln High and other schools in the district, but we haven't heard back.

Students hope district officials take the fight seriously and implement security changes.

"It would help to have a bit more security," said Ruiz.

"Keep a lot more administrators just walking around, just in case. Maybe a few up in front of the school," said Goldsmith. "I really like this school and I just want to see it succeed."

The victim's mother tells WTXL her daughter suffered injuries to her head and tailbone, but she wasn't seriously injured.

Morgan faces battery and trespassing charges but was not arrested. She has been issued a court notice to appear.
