PERRY, FL (WTXL) -- It's Halloween and we all like to be scared today, right? Well, maybe most of us and that includes WTXL's Valerie Mills. She introduces us to a woman who is kept very busy on Halloween.
It looks like a house, an everyday house, but it's October 31st, so you know this has to be a haunted house. Meet Denise Burroughs, a paranormal investigator who lives in Perry, Florida. Burroughs had her first paranormal confrontation as a little girl. Years later, that experience led her to forming the Paranormal Investigators of North Florida in 2005.
It's a group dedicated to help people experiencing explainable encounters with ghostly spirits. Burroughs says, "If a client tells us that they are seeing a shadow person, or they've heard noises, or somebody died in the home, or they know something happened, we look for those things to try to either debunk it or to prove it." Typically, people who have brushes with spirits don't talk about it until hearing someone else's story.
Burroughs gets multiple calls a week from people across North Florida seeing or hearing things they don't understand and feel uneasy about. Ghosts use mirrors or artifacts as portals to enter a home. Her team of 9 investigators use devices to pick up on energy and temperature changes within a room that reveal paranormal spirits.
T.J. Davis, President of Taylor County Historical Society, notes, "You can tell if a spirit is good or evil. Your body can usually tell and connect with what's going on around you." Knowing what exactly is going on around you is what a paranormal investigator is trained to do. Paranormal Investigators of North Florida offers a free service to come to your home if things are happening you can't explain.
