GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Board of Governors committee is recommending that one of Florida's state universities should take the lead on online learning for the entire system.

The Strategic Planning Committee agreed on that proposal Wednesday in Gainesville after listening to a presentation on the University of Florida's online strategies.

The recommendation is part of a comprehensive online learning plan that will be considered by the full board during a conference call meeting scheduled for Feb. 21.

The plan is intended to better coordinate online degree offerings across the system that's growing to 12 schools when Florida Polytechnic University opens in the fall.

It also calls for forming a working group to determine how the universities can coordinate online learning with Florida's 28 state and community colleges and private schools.
