VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The owner of Jungle Jym's Family Fun Center has been arrested after pointing a gun at a patron and her 13-year-old child during a dispute.
Roy Taylor, 79, has been charged with one count of pointing a pistol at another (misdemeanor) and one count of reckless conduct (misdemeanor).
On Tuesday, the Valdosta Police Department obtained arrest warrants for Taylor's arrest.
After reviewing the video, Chief Brian Childress says that he saw probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Taylor.
"There is a counter argument that the reason he pulled the gun out was cause of what he thought was self defense, the problem is that we don't agree that when he pulled that gun out that it was warranted at that time for him to pull out the firearm," said Chief Childress.
Chief Childress says that he does not believe that Taylor was going to physically harm the victims, which is what kept this case from being an aggravated assault.
At this time no one else is being charged.
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta Police Department is investigating after receiving reports that the owner of a family entertainment center pulled a gun on a citizen and her 13-year-old son during a dispute.
VPD says that on Saturday around 4:46 p.m., they were called to Jungle Jym's Family Fun Center on North Oak Street Extension.
When they arrived, they spoke with a citizen who said the owner of the business pointed a pistol at her and her 13-year-old son during an argument.
As part of the investigation, police have interviewed several witnesses and the owner of the business.
The owner claims that the action was done in self-defense, so VPD is working with the business to get surveillance video of the incident.
Police say there has been multiple posts on social media about the matter and many people have contacted the department, to include the chief, about the incident.
“We are treating this case like any other. Although was have multiple witness statements, the police department wants to review the video from inside the business before we make a determination if a crime was committed or not. As we have done in the past, if someone committed a crime, charges will be filed. If not, our report will also reflect that fact,” stated Chief Brian Childress.
