TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A group of students in Tallahassee lent a helping hand to local organizations as part of the Saint John's Episcopal Church Youth's B.E.A.T. Program.

The "Being Extraordinary Around Tallahassee" program allows student volunteers to earn service hours through various projects with local non-profit organizations.

This week 62 student volunteers worked with groups such as Grace Mission, Second Harvest, and the Kearney Center to log over 1,100 service hours.

The program gives students "...a chance to be responsible citizens and to form relationships among themselves and among the greater community" says Caroline Williams, Director of Youth Ministries at Saint John's.

The church says the program has become so popular in recent years that there is now a waiting list to get involved.
