COOK COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Cook County deputies say a traffic stop for speeding on I-75 led them to find nearly $72,000 in cash and more than 20 pounds of marijuana.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office says that Khalil Schleicher, 33, of Orlando was arrested and charged with speeding and trafficking marijuana.
Deputies say that around 3:45 a.m. on July 25, a deputy stopped a black 2017 Toyota Corolla at the 40 mile marker of I-75 SB for speeding. They say the car was going 90 mph in a 70 mph zone.
While talking to the driver, the deputy noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from the car. The driver, Schleicher, informed them that "13 pounds" of marijuana was hidden in the truck of the car.
This lead Cook County deputies to search the car, leading them to find eight vacuum sealed bags of marijuana, $71,888, and an unknown amount of "marijuana wax".
An investigation revealed that Schleicher was traveling from Atlanta to his home in Orlando with the drugs.
Deputies were able to determine that Schleicher had been hiding nearly 22 pounds of marijuana in the car.
CCSO says that additional charges are pending for the "marijuana wax." They say an investigation is still ongoing.
