TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee city commissioners have unanimously voted to approve renaming a portion of Orange Avenue after civil rights activist C.K. Steele.
A noble cause, but some people in the community aren't on the same page.
"If it is changed to C.K. Steele, like I said, he's a very prestigious person," said Natasha Gross, a student at World Class Academy of Beauty in Tallahassee, "but Orange Avenue is what we know about."
"I mean--that's the way it should be," said Willie James. "Just leave it alone, don't even bother it. This is a pretty historical area and it's been here for many years."
City commissioner Curtis Richardson says, this is nothing new. The city faced a similar response after the push to rename what we now know as Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
