TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- According to OneBlood, one in three Americans will need a blood transfusion at some point in their life and every two seconds someone is in need of a blood transfusion in America.
That's why two organizations, OneBlood and Proctor Subaru, held a blood drive Saturday.
The blood drive encouraged the community to come together to save lives.
"They have no idea that when they are giving blood it's gonna impact somebody within the next few days and in many cases it's saving somebody's life," said Pat Michaels from OneBlood.
OneBlood officials say the receive a high number of donations during major disasters like Hurricane Irma. However, those numbers drop afterward.
During the event, the organization brought three big red buses, food and free items to remind people that there is still a need to donate blood.
"It's great to donate blood after a disaster," said Michaels. "That's always good, but you have to remember that it's the people that give before the disasters happen who are making a difference."
Those who donated were entered into a raffle to win prizes. OneBlood and Proctor Subaru say it's their way of showing thanks to many people that gave a little bit today to save many tomorrow.
