GREENSBORO, Fla. (WTXL) - One person is dead after crashing into a tree on Carl Pitts Road in Greensboro early Sunday morning.
Demetris Lane, 33, crashed into a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gadsden County Sheriff's Office responded to a burglary around 3 a.m. at a convenience store on Carl Pitts Road.
Deputies put out an alert with Lane's car description.
Shortly after, deputies spotted Lane's vehicle and attempted to pull the car over.
The car fled and a chase occurred.
They got to a traffic stop and the deputy was able to see there were two people in the car.
The other suspect got out of the car and began running, while Lane attacked the deputy with a hammer. The deputy fired two shots, missing the suspects.
Lane attacked the deputy, got back into the car and drove away.
Lane then crashed into a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Florida Highway Patrol is currently leading the investigation.

The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Highway Patrol are currently on scene investigating.
The sheriff's office says that the crash happened on Carl Pitts Road in Greensboro around 5:30 a.m.
