MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - One person is dead after a fatal accident in Marion County on Sunday.
Juanita Benitez, 40, was declared dead at the scene after a collision with another car. Jander Castaneda, 42, was a passenger in Benitez's car and suffered minor injuries.
Courtland Gross, 24, was the driver of the other car and also suffered minor injuries.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Gross was traveling north on State Road 19 and failed to stop at a red light causing a collision at the intersection of State Road 19 and State Road 40.
Troopers say Benitez tried to avoid the collision but was unable to do so in time.
Both cars were redirected off the road and onto the grass shoulder.
Gross and Casttaneda suffered non-life threatening injuries and Benitez was declared dead at the scene.
No word if Gross will be charged. The investigation is still ongoing.
