SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Sarasota Police Department has officially confirmed the identities of all four of the individuals involved in today's fatal car crash, and says the only survivor is turning 21 today.
The single-vehicle crash that is currently being investigating by police happened at 3 a.m. Monday morning near the intersection of Old Bradenton Road and DeSoto Road in Sarasota. It is still unknown where each passenger was sitting and if alcohol or drugs played a role, but police believe at this time that speed was a factor.
The four individuals in the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis have been identified as Wesley McCurley (the driver), 21, Michael Duffy, 21, Dane Custer, 21, and Thomas Bentley, turning 21 today. Of the four, it was Bentley who was transported to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and is expected to survive.
