One hospitalized in car accident involving golf cart

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Georgia State Patrol says a 11-year-old child has been charged after a golf cart she was driving made an illegal u-turn, causing a car to crash into the cart.

They say that around 6:50 a.m. the 11-year-old and a 12-year-old passenger were driving a 1998 Ez-Go Golf south on Rocky Ford Road.

A 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 47-year-old Willie Jenkins of Florida City, was also traveling behind the golf cart. 

Troopers say that the 11-year-old started to slow down the golf cart to make an illegal u-turn and as she did, the front part of the SUV hit the the golf cart.

Both vehicles traveled off the roadway. The golf cart then overturned.

The 11-year-old driver and 12-year-old passenger both suffered minor injuries but were not transported to a hospital. Jenkins sustained minor injuries and was taken to the South Georgia Medical Center. 

During an investigation, troopers learned that Jenkins had been under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash and was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license.

GSP says the 11-year-old has been charged with an improper u-turn.
