ALBANY, Ga. (AP) - Two Albany officials say they believe the Dougherty County school board is moving too fast on plans to close two schools.
School board member Darrel Ealum and city Commissioner Jon Howard both represent eastside districts that include the schools slated for closure - Sylvester Road Elementary School and Dougherty Middle School.
The Albany Herald reports the school board voted Wednesday to accept a consultant's plan to close the schools. Ealum and Howard say they agree the county has too many schools to support dropping enrollment and some be closed. But they question why both should be in the same part of the county east of the Flint River.
A final vote could come as soon as the next board meeting February 11.
