TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Hurricane season officially begins in just over five weeks.

Storms can take its toll on businesses. Leon County officials are taking action to make sure businesses are prepared.

Officials taught resiliency Thursday with the Ready Business Hurricane Workshop.

Business owners learned best practices about preparing for a disaster to keep the businesses here in town up and running.

"We all know that more than half of the businesses that close their doors following a hurricane don't re-open or they re-locate so we'll be developing personal plans on how you contact your staff and how you develop your insurance plans so you have the right converge," said Mathieu Cavell, Assistant to the County Administrator.

The 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season starts June 1 and ends November 30.
