VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta school officials say that while they are monitoring Hurricane Irma, schools are to continue operations as normal.
They issued the following statement:
"Valdosta City Schools' officials are partnering with Lowndes County Emergency Management to determine potential impacts of Hurricane Irma on the community.
Although the National Weather Service models are good predictors of a storm’s path, we cannot accurately forecast the course and strength of the storm until is much closer.
Because we do not want to make a decision prematurely, we will continue to monitor the storm and seek advice from our local EMA officials daily. We will offer updates via our website, social media sites, all call system and local media outlets to keep all stakeholders informed.
We thank you for your patience and appreciate your trust in our school district."
WTXL will continue to monitor the district and will update this story if any changes are made.
