COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - A death investigation is now underway after a man died less than a week ago from what is believed to have been related heat exertion.
The Colquitt County Coroner confirms that a 24-year-old man went into cardiac arrest last Thursday while picking tomatoes on a farm in extremely hot temperatures.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says there is an open investigation, which is standard protocol when someone dies on the job.
Community members are now paying close attention to the hot weather conditions.
The Colquitt County coroner says they are not releasing the name of the man and are currently trying to identify the exact cause of death. However, he stated he believes the cause of death was by simple overexertion.
