LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Summer officially begins next week and Lowndes County wants to remind you to follow regulations when it comes to debris burning.

Lowndes County sees an increase in uncontrollable fires during the Summer months.

That's when people burn things that are not allowed to be burned, such as trash or car parts.

County officials say, community members can only burn lawn debris.

And can only do it on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month in the un-incorporated sector of Lowndes County.

"That does not mean demolition debris. You know if you've remodeled your bathroom or your kitchen floor or something like that, it's not ok to burn those things," said Paige Dukes. "Car parts, household trash--those are all things that our code enforcement officers will come out and issue illegal burning citations over."

People who plan to burn on the designated days, must first apply for a permit, which can be done online 24-hours a day or via phone by calling Georgia forestry.
