KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) - An investigation is underway after a substitute teacher put duct tape on the mouths of students.
Killeen ISD said that a teacher at Maxdale Elementary School had placed duct tapes on the mouths of 10 out of 17 students in a classroom. The substitute instructed three other students to put the tape on their mouth, which they did.
Officials say that the fifth-grade substitute teacher had put the tape on the students for several minutes.
The school district said that the substitute will not be on campus again.
Students were checked out by the school nurse.
The school released a statement Thursday:
The leadership of Maxdale Elementary School and Killeen ISD are deeply saddened by this event. The principal has informed parents, and has reassured parents that the staff will continue to work hard to make sure every child at campus is absolutely safe every day.
Child Protective Services was notified of the event.
