ARLINGTON COUNTY, VA (RNN/CNN) – Police officers in Virginia have gone viral, thanks to a synchronized swimming video that shows them getting into the pool in their uniforms.

The video was posted to the Arlington County Police Department’s Facebook page Thursday to promote a block party held by the police, fire and sheriff’s departments in Arlington, VA.

Officials say they hope the video helps put police in a positive light.

“I think that we are humanizing the badge. We are taking something that people have one perspective of, be it good or bad, and then we are showing them that, ‘Hey, you strip this down, we're just like you,’” Arlington County Police Officer Daniel Gardner told WTTG.

It took multiple takes over the course of several days to get their routine perfect.

None of the officers had any experience with synchronized swimming, according to WTTG, but they watched videos online and took it from there.

The third annual block party will be held Aug. 26 in Arlington. The free event features interactive activities that simulate police scenarios, training on police tactics and demonstrations from police K9s, according to ARLnow.com.
