SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, three vehicles were involved in a crash that sent all involved to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Guy Theron, 57, of Sarasota, died at the hospital from his injuries.

The incident on Siesta Key happened at the intersection of Faubel Street and Higel Avenue.

Officers say speed and a medical issue may be factors that caused the crash.

Theron was driving the Dodge mini-van at a high rate of speed heading northbound on Higel Avenue. He had no passengers with him.

Ian Lee, 18, of Sarasota, was driving the gold Honda heading southbound.

Killian Metz, 17, of Sarasota, was driving the black Scion with passenger, Darian Callahan, 19, of Sarasota, and they were heading southbound as well.

Theron suddenly swerved striking one vehicle and then swerved again striking the other vehicle, according to the report.

Officers are investigated what caused Theron to swerve. Theron's van did have an Uber sticker on the windshield but he was not driving for Uber at the time.

All involved remain in the hospital at this time.

Lee is experiencing non-life threatening injuries. Metz has serious injuries but is expected to recover. Callahan has critical injuries but is also expected to recover.

The crash continues to be under investigation.
