GREENVILLE, FL (WTXL) - The National Transportation Safety Board has released the results of its preliminary investigation into a plane crash that happened in Madison County last month.
A small plane from Apopka, Florida, went down over Greenville killing two people. The plane was headed to Tallahassee.
According to the NTSB, the plane was flying over Gadsden County when the pilot, James Swiggart, told air traffic controllers that there was low visibility.
Swiggart then sent out an emergency signal but a short time later, the plane lost contact all together. The wreckage was found the following day.
Swiggart was a Navy Pilot and flight instructor. Officials say he was flying with 18-year-old flight student, Maitland Harvey.
Officials say both had certificates to fly however log books showed that the plane wasn't certified for certain flight conditions.
The NTSB says while the preliminary investigation has been completed, they're still sifting through many of those records.
