TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - According to the Florida News Service, Tuesday a substitute lineup of the Elections Canvassing Commission certified the results of Florida's November 4th general election, which included the re-election of Governor Rick Scott and each member of the State Cabinet. Those certified included outgoing Senate President Don Gaetz and Senators Rob Bradley and Kelli Stargel. Typically the commission consists of Scott and two members of the Cabinet, but each selected a replacement since they were all on the ballot.
Secretary of State Ken Detzner says, overall the election went smoothly. More citizens used early or absentee ballots rather than vote on Election Day. He says paying attention to these trends going forward, along with updating some voting hardware, will ensure the 2016 election runs just as well.
"Some of the equipment is old, some as old as ten years old. We'll be evaluating that and working with the supervisors and their local county commissions to make sure they get funded in time for 2016."
Detzner says, a presidential election will have higher turnout than this year's midterm election did.
