TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is giving $4.75 million dollars towards six water-related projects in Northwest Florida.
The projects are located in Bay, Liberty, Jackson, and Walton counties. The department says that the projects will allow for better potable-water, wastewater and stormwater facilities.
DeFuniak Springs in Walton County was given a little over $400,000 to replace deteriorating water lines and water mains. The city of Marianna is receiving funds to continue a water transmission improvement project.
In Liberty County, the department says that they're experiencing a well shortage in the area. The funds given to the county will be used to evaluate their shortage and decide what actions should be taken from there.
Bay County will be using the funds for two projects, according to the department. The city of Mexico Beach will use the money for building two water wells, and two wastewater projects will occur to help increase protection of St. Andrews Bay.
