WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Wakulla County deputies say that no punishment is being issued for the students involved in an investigation surrounding threats allegedly made on social media.

The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office said that the whole ordeal was a big misunderstanding that escalated via social media.

They said that a group of students overheard what they believed to be a verbal gun threat made between students and posted it on social media where it spread like wildfire.

High school administrators and the school resource officer at Wakulla County High School immediately started an investigation on Monday upon hearing the rumors.

However, no evidence of a threat was ever found.
