SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia prosecutor says he won't bring criminal charges against two Waycross police officers who shot and killed a man inside his home after his fiance called 911 seeking help.
Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney Bradley Collins said in a statement Wednesday that officers were justified in killing 45-year-old Jack Lamar Roberson in October based on findings by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Collins says audio from personal recorders the officers carried showed they warned Roberson multiple times to drop a knife before he was shot.
Roberson's relatives have said police opened fire without warning. An attorney for the family, Christopher Chestnut, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
Roberson's fiance called 911 saying he had swallowed pills with alcohol, smashed a TV and overturned a refrigerator.
