No Bond For Palestinian Woman In Immigration Case

Posted

DETROIT (AP) — A federal judge says a Chicago activist will be held without bond after being found guilty of immigration fraud for not disclosing her conviction and imprisonment in a Jerusalem supermarket bombing that killed two people.

U.S. District Judge Gershwin Drain on Monday revoked Rasmieh Yousef Odeh's bond and ordered the 67-year-old detained until her March 10 sentencing.

Defense attorney Michael Deutsch argued Odeh wasn't a flight risk. He said she'd earlier turned down an opportunity to plead guilty and leave the U.S.

Odeh says she thought the question about previous convictions in her 2004 citizenship application referred to only convictions under U.S. law.

She also says Israeli authorities tortured her to get a confession. Drain barred reference to that at trial.
