TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Inaugural ceremonies for Florida’s 46th Governor are underway right here in Tallahassee.
One of those events honored those who fought for our country both past and present.
The atmosphere was very energetic as military personnel and first responders welcomed their newly-elected officials, including Governor-Elect Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis vowed to remember the men and women who are gone and also to support the families who shared those brave men and women with us.
Honor and gratitude is what filled the room at the Tallahassee Automobile Museum as newly-elected officials thanked those who are putting their lives on the line for our country, both in the U.S. and abroad.
"We thank you because you are heroes who have made a profound and lasting impact on our state, our country and our history," said Lt. Governor-Elect Jeanette Nunez.
Many of them making a promise to improve the lives of those who have served or are serving.
"I make this promise, I will have your back while you are in the line of duty fulfilling your oath, I will fulfill mine to defend the law, to defend the constitution, and to defend those that serve it," said Attorney General-Elect Ashley Moody.
DeSantis saying that Floridians should never forget our first responders and our veterans or the families who love them.
"Sometimes we don't do as good of a job of appreciating as serving in the military is a team effort that really affects the family like the spouses and the kids and so when you have somebody that has made the last full measure of devotion in service of our country, we obviously can't forget what they did for us, but we also can't forget the people that were left behind," said DeSantis.
A hopeful note and a promise to kick off the next administration.
Other notable speakers at the event were Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis and Agriculture Commissioner Elect Nikki Fried.
All of them will be officially sworn-in at a ceremony Tuesday.
