TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- There's still time for you to take part in an inaugural event that supports the Special Olympics.
We were joined on Sunrise by Bill Schack, the marketing chair of Special Olympics Leon County, who told us about a group of local athletes just coming back from winning gold in South Florida.
Special Olympics serves 375 athletes throughout Leon County, offering 13 different sports and year-round training and competition to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
There's no cost to take part, so fundraisers like this first-ever Winterfest help raise money to support the organization's mission.
The even will feature a chili contest, plus games, face painting and local music. It's a way to benefit the Special Olympics.
Winterfest is this Saturday, December 13 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church.
Special Olympics Leon County is always looking for volunteers as well
