VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - The Valdosta-Lowndes Park and Recreation Authority broke ground on a new tennis complex that is already scheduled to bring in over $800,000 to the Valdosta community.
The Valdosta-Lowndes Tennis Association applied and won a bid to host a state level championship, which will come for two four day weekends in August of 2018 and 2019.
An estimated 850 adults are expected to eat, lodge and shop in the city each weekend.
The tennis complex consists of six additional courts to the existing 12.
"Tennis is a lifetime sport, it's something you can start as a toddler and you can play throughout your life, so it's so exciting to see so much activity out here on a daily basis," said Suzan Prince.
The new courts will also have gazebos to help fight the heat.
They are expected to be complete by the summer, just before August.
