TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The City of Tallahassee is launching a new program that let's you pay your parking bills with canned food donations.

From now until January 4, any parking ticket issued to you by the City is eligible for the program.

First time offenders will be able to donate one non-perishable food item for every $1 credit towards their parking fine.

Most of those fines start at $10, and you can use the canned goods to pay for fines up to $50.

All you have to do is go to the Utility Customer Service counter at the Frenchtown Renaissance Center from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The City says the goal of the program approved at last week's commission meeting is to help feed the hungry this holiday season.

All of the collections will be given to America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
