TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- There's no cure for HIV or AIDS, but locals are working every day to help sufferers.
Big Bend Cares, a Tallahassee-based organization that supports those infected with the disease, will work closely with a new facility being built in the city's Southside neighborhood.
Plans are ahead of schedule to complete Care Point Health and Wellness Center, being built across the street from Big Bend Cares.
WTXL reported on the start of construction along Monroe Street in September.
Big Bend Cares deputy director Charlie Adams said the 27,000-square foot facility is nearing completion earlier than expected, because there hasn't been much rain lately to slow down progress.
The $11 million project will be a full-service medical facility for clients with Big Bend Cares -- and anyone else in the community.
"It's certainly not specific just to our clients," Adams said. "We hope that anybody who is dealing with any disease can find what they need here. Certainly, there will be people at the facility that will be able to take care of our clients. We hope that it's just a convenient way for them to get a lot of services done at one time and in one place."
Care Point will work independently from Big Bend Cares.
The new facility will include medical and dental services, as well as a laboratory, pharmacy and services for mental health and substance abuse.
The goal is to complete construction by the end of next summer.
