(WTXL) - A group of Parkland students and parents against have filed a civil rights lawsuit against members of law enforcement and the public school system who, they allege, "failed the students" during the February school shooting.
Meanwhile, in Washington, the federal commission on school safety convened to hear expert testimony on other options to increase school safety across the nation.
February 14, 2018, is a day and a school shooting that Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students will never forget.
"We thought we were safe at school, that we should always be protected," said student Audrey Diaz.
Fourteen students and three school employees were killed that day, and now some of the students and parents in Parkland are hoping to hold members of the Broward County Sheriff's Office and Broward County Public Schools accountable by filing a civil rights lawsuit, announcing it in a press conference in Florida on Wednesday.
In Washington, members of the Federal Commission on School Safety heard expert testimony from mental health professionals as they prepare recommendations for schools around the country.
