MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Midway Police Chief is settling into to his new job.

Deric Mordica is 40 years old and he says he was named police chief on August 15.

Mordica plans to mordernize the police department and have more of an open door policy to build trust with the people of Midway.

"I'm looking forward to bringing a new environment to the community, there's been so much corruption and bad media throughout the city of Midway that I would like to bring a change to the whole culture as a whole," says Mordica.

There are seven members of the Midway Police Department including Mordica, and he plans to add more officers in the next fiscal year.
