TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Under an Oak Tree in Midtown, the sounds of laughter as people sip on their wine can now be heard.

It’s been two months since Humming Bird Wine Bar opened.

"Something that was wine focused, community focused. Kind of like a culture home for people who love wine," Owner Greg Hajcak.

Hajcak said he always had a passion for win, so two years ago he created the vision you see today.

Never did he imagine a virus could disrupt everything.

"When the pandemic hit, this place was actually under construction and it was just past the point of no return," Hajcak said. "At that point we were really afraid."

A fear felt by many local business owners, but for Hajcak, he found his glimpse of hope virtually.

"We started a wine club first thing and right out of the gates we started a zoom based happy hour with them," Hajcak said. "We did deliveries and that’s one of the main ways I think we got some momentum early on, so even in the mists of the pandemic. People were happy to have us deliver wine to their house."

Starting with 60 members in one month, he now has 120 and growing.

Hajcak said he feels grateful to get to see his dream come to life.

"I mean it’s been a total roller coaster ride," Hajcak said. "It’s been fairly scary, but incredibly gratifying."
