TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A new law set to go in effect on Saturday would change how the state handles public corruption.

Public corruption is a breach of trust by a government official often with the help of anyone not employed by the government. The new law is designed to help get potentially corrupt politicians out of office.

From 2003 to 2013 Florida was ranked 3rd in the country for federal public corruption convictions at the local, state, and federal level.

Some attorney said that the law would give prosecution an edge when it comes to getting a conviction.

Attorney Mutakee Akbar said, "So for example if you have a legislator or someone else that received tickets from a lobbyist they could just say, 'Hey, I wanted tickets for my son'...there was no corrupt intentions involved or to change my decision in any type of way...but now just in having those tickets alone is enough to show public corruption."

The new law will go into effect on Saturday.
