New interim superintendent for Brooks County Schools

QUITMAN, Ga.-- Brooks County officials have announced who will serve as interim superintendent of schools.

Owen Clemons, the Assistant Superintendent of Brooks County Schools, has been chosen to fill the gap between when the current superintendent, Debra Folsom, retires until her position is filled.

Clemons has been a Georgia Educator since 1979.  He advanced to the position of Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Brooks County School District after serving in several administrative positions at the Central Office Level. Clemons has been an administrator with the Brooks County School District for over 20 years.

His career began as an educator with the Lowndes County School District teaching science, math and coaching basketball. Later, he transitioned to Leesburg, GA and served as assistant principal at Lee County High School before coming to Brooks County Schools as Personnel Director. 

He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Albany State College, and he has both Masters and Educational Specialist degrees from Valdosta State University. His current duties and responsibilities include: Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources Director, Director of Professional Learning, System Test Coordinator, Title II A Federal Programs Coordinator, System SACS Coordinator, Tribunal Administrator, and Sports Equity Coordinator.
