TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A new hotel broke ground this week in Tallahassee's CollegeTown.
It's the latest development along Gaines Street and adds to the city's growing hospitality industry.
Construction on Hotel Indigo officially started Monday.
The hotel chain has several locations in the U.S. and around the world.
The Tallahassee property will have 140 rooms and developers are considering a traffic light at the intersection of Gaines and Lorene streets.
The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce said this project is part of the private sector momentum in the city.
"We're excited to see these things happen, and any time you've got major national hotel chains who are new to this market, maybe more familiar with other edgy and hip markets that people are attracted to, it means you're doing something right," said Jay Revell, Vice President of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. "I think our community is doing quite a bit of things right these days, and we're proud to see this type of development continue."
Developers told us they plan to open the hotel during the first quarter of the year 2020.
