GEORGIA (WTXL) - A new Georgia Senate Bill requires school-aged children to learn about sexual abuse awareness and prevention.
The upcoming school term will be the first since Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed 'State Senate Bill 401' into law this past May.
Lawmakers crafted this law using what's known as "Erin's Law" - named after an Illinois woman who was sexually abused as a child.
Schools in Georgia are now required have trained professionals talk to young students at an age-appropriate level.
The bill applies to children from kindergarten to 9th grade. Georgia became the 35th state to adopt similar legislation.
