LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — A state university that opened its doors in September and doesn't have sports teams is looking for a new mascot.

Volunteers at Florida Polytechnic will meet Wednesday to discuss the school mascot.

The volunteers will take a course in design, and their concepts will be whittled down to three finalists, with students voting March 10. The winning mascot will be revealed April 22.

The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1yC2CTq) reports that some suggestions are already being bandied about. Reflecting the school's science, technology, engineering and math focus, "Robots" and "Vulcans" have been suggested. Some students go for alliteration, with "Pirates," ''Penguins" and "Parrots."
