TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida approved 12 new amendments last November, and all are set to take effect within the next week.
Amendment Two started Tuesday. This proposal permanently places a 10-percent cap on the annual increase of non-homestead property tax assessments.
Amendment Five will go into effect next Tuesday.
This amendment requires a two-thirds vote in the Florida House and Senate — instead of a simple majority — to raise taxes.
And nearly 1.5 million former felons will soon be able to vote.
Florida was just one of four states that didn't automatically restore voting rights after felons completed their sentence.
And Florida's minimum wage workers got a pay raise Tuesday.
Minimum-wage workers started earning $8.46 an hour, up from $8.25 an hour in 2018.
It's more than a dollar above the $7.25 federal minimum wage.
Florida's minimum wage ticks up each year because of a 2004 constitutional amendment that ties the rate to inflation.
