TALLAHASSEE, Fla., (WTXL) -- A new drone and unmanned technologies certificate program will be offered at Tallahassee Community College's Wakulla Environmental Institute.
The 12 week program will provide an introduction to aerial, surface, and underwater drones and unmanned systems for environmental purposes.
TCC's Wakulla Environmental Institute partnered with Gulf Unmanned Systems to create and offer the certificate.
Course work is divided into three areas:
- Introduction to drones and unmanned technologies
- Application of drones and unmanned technologies to environmental issues
- Ground school and flight school
The program begins in June. It will launch with an open house event Friday, June 5, in the Lifetime Sports Center's Recreational Gym on TCC's main campus from 3p.m. to 5p.m. There they will feature demonstrations of the unmanned technologies in use.
The event is free and open to the public.
Registration for the course is $500 per student. Classes will be on Mondays from 6p.m. to 9p.m. at the TCC Wakulla Center. It includes online assignments and three hands-on practicals at either the Wakulla Center or Gulf Unmanned Systems Center in Carrabelle.
