TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leadership changes are being made at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in the Capital City.

Professor and scientist Lance Cooley is now the new director of the MagLab's Applied Superconductivity Center. Cooley joined the lab in 2017 and says he's excited to continue working on superconducting magnets with the MagLab team.

"The uniqueness of this group is kind of like this giant key that's been given to me because this group has such enormous potential to make so many  applications," said Cooley. "There's no place like this on the planet. It's the best place to be for doing the type of research were doing."

Officials say Cooley is taking over for his mentor David Larbalestier who will stay the chief scientist for materials at the MagLab and a professor in the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.
