TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - We're learning new details about what led to a shooting at Seminole Grand Apartments last week.

Juwan Vann, 21, has been arrested in connection to a Friday afternoon shooting at the apartment complex on West Tharpe Street.

According to a probable cause document, officers were called to Seminole Grand Apartments about a victim who had been shot.

When they arrived to the correct apartment, they found the victim, later identified as William Jacques Jr., with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and buttocks. As a result of his injuries, the victim was transported to the hospital for emergency, life-saving surgery.

Court documents say there were two other victims who were there during the shooting who told police that all three of them were inside the residence when seven gunshots came through the front door, hitting Jacques.

The victims said they believed the shooting to be in retaliation of them identifying Vann as a suspect in a home invasion robbery at the same apartment on Aug. 8. He was later arrested and charged in that incident.

According to the report, two of the victims were walking outside when a maroon Hyundai drove past them. As the vehicle slowly passed, Vann yelled at the victims from the inside.

The victim quickly turned around and tried to walk back to their apartment, but noticed Vann trying to sneak up behind them. Vann then pulled out a handgun, according to the victims, and fired several rounds at them.

Believing that Vann was trying to sneak up and "kill them" from behind, one of the victims pulled out a gun from his pocket and shot back at Vann, hoping to "scare him off."

Eventually, the victims were able to retreat into the apartment. However, just seconds later, gunshots came through the front door, injuring Jacques.

The victims were able to identify Vann in a photo lineup and officers were able to find bullet casings from Vann's and the victims' guns, corroborating their story.

Based on the evidence, Vann was charged with two counts of attempted homicide and one count of firing a weapon into a dwelling. He was taken into custody on Saturday and remains in jail on a $25,000 bond.
