MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (CNN) -- A big drug bust off the coast of South Florida this weekend, and new U.S. coast guard cutters helped to haul it all in.
Officials say on their first trip out to the Caribbean Sea, the ships intercepted nearly 35 kilograms of cocaine and 2,100 pounds of marijuana.
The estimated street value of the drugs is $3 million.
Officials say the new, faster, more efficient and economical cutters make them ideal for drug busts in the open seas.
