FREEPORT, Fla. (AP) — A Florida Panhandle woman is facing animal cruelty charges after six horses and 97 dogs were seized from her home.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office reports that 49-year-old Nancy Payne was arrested on Friday following an investigation that began in April. She was released on bail Saturday.

The Northwest Florida Daily News (http://goo.gl/hC8xIY ) reports that the horses and dogs were severely malnourished. The animals were taken to Alaqua Animal Refuge until a more permanent home could be found.

The refuge is seeking donations to offset the costs of medical care to treat the animals. More information on how to help can be found at alaquaanimalrefuge.org. None of the animals can be adopted until the case is resolved.
