JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A spokesman for Republican U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee says doctors found a new tumor in the Mississippi congressman and told him no further medical treatment is possible.
Morgan Baldwin, a consultant for Nunnelee, said Friday that the tumor was discovered last week. Baldwin says the 56-year-old congressman was sent home Monday from North Mississippi Medical Center, where he'd been hospitalized since late December.
Baldwin says Nunnelee is resting comfortably in Tupelo, and the family requests privacy.
Nunnelee had a stroke in June while surgeons were removing a brain tumor.
In December, Nunnelee was hospitalized for treatment of a bleeding problem in his left leg. He was too ill to go to Washington to be sworn in for his third term, so House leaders let him take his oath in Mississippi.
