Search suspended in SC river for Florida man

Posted

LONG CREEK, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have suspended their search for the body of a Florida man missing in a South Carolina river.

Officials on Monday halted the search for the body of Thomas Hill of Tampa, Fla., due to equipment problems and the potential for storms in the area. The search is set to resume early Tuesday.

Hill fell off a raft in the Chattooga River on Wednesday. Officials say the Sherwin-Williams manager had been at a corporate sales meeting before the trip.

Officials say the search has used dive teams, side-scan sonar and an underwater camera. Crews have been able to rule out several areas.

The U.S. Forest Service says more than 200 people have been involved in the search.

Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams says Hill had been with the company for 27 years.
