Health care protections for transgender patients rolled back

The Trump administration has rolled back health care protections for transgender patients.

The protections were an Obama-era policy that prohibited health care providers from discriminating against transgender patients, Politico reports.

The regulation is being rewritten by the health department and aims to protect those who cite moral or religious reasons from paying for or participating in certain services.

The Trump administration has also banned transgender recruits from joining the military .

On Wednesday, The Department of Housing and Urban Development proposed a new rule that would allow federally funded homeless shelters to consider sex and gender identity when deciding whether to accommodate someone.

The proposal came a day after Secretary Ben Carson told Congress he is "not currently anticipating" changes to the Equal Access Rule, an Obama-era rule that required shelters provide lodging regardless of gender identity.
