UNION, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey authorities have identified a woman found dead in an apartment with her malnourished 4-year-old son as offers pour in from around the world to adopt the boy.
Police in Union say the woman was 38-year-old Kiana Workman of Brooklyn, N.Y. The apartment belongs to her mother, who is at a nursing facility.
Police found the woman and her son Tuesday. They first believed she had been dead about five days but now say it may have been two to three. A cause of death hasn't yet been determined.
The boy weighed about 26 pounds but should weigh about 42. He couldn't open the refrigerator, so was eating from a bag of sugar. He remained hospitalized Wednesday.
Adoption offers are pouring in as police try to locate Workman's brother.
